Enterprise resource planning systems – an all-rounder for business processes
ERP systems are essential tools for companies of all sizes that want to design their processes efficiently and in a structured manner. ERP stands for ” enterprise resource planning” and refers to a software solution that integrates and automates all business processes within a company. This means that different departments such as finance, sales, production, purchasing and human resources can communicate seamlessly with each other within a company – and this naturally allows companies greater control over their business processes. ERP systems consolidate all information onto one platform. This also allows companies to avoid creating data silos, as the systems provide a central source of data. With their scalable and customizable features, ERP systems help companies adapt to rapidly changing market conditions. In short, ERPs enable companies to simplify their operations, increase efficiency and thus improve their competitiveness.
But which systems currently exist on the market? And what do the functions of ERP solutions look like in detail? We have addressed these questions in our market overview of ERP systems.

Price approaches of the providers – ranging from two euros to 100,000 euros
Depending on the scope of the software solutions, their pricing also differs. In our market overview, we asked the providers about their starting prices. The lowest-priced provider in our comparison starts at a price of two euros. At the other end of the price scale is a software with a starting price of around 100,000 euros. But what ultimately determines the price? A decisive factor in the price structure of enterprise resource planning systems is the number of users. This shows that the more people use an ERP solution, the more companies usually have to pay for the system.
The number of licenses issued also affects the total price of the software solution. Another factor: the module scope of the ERP systems. The number of modules required can vary greatly from company to company, and so can the total cost. Some of the providers in our market overview also offer a free basic version. So if you want to start small and try it out first, you can do so to a certain extent at no cost.
Languages of the user interface
In order to ensure smooth use for all employees, ERP systems should be available in different languages. Especially for companies whose teams are scattered around the globe, a wide range of languages is important so that the software is easy to use for everyone. In our overview, we asked the providers about the languages that are available for their ERP systems. Almost all solutions (40 of the 41 providers) are available in German. German is therefore the standard language for the systems we compared. The majority of providers also offer English as a user interface language – an important criterion for international companies. Some of the providers even cover languages such as Russian and Japanese. The range of languages offered by enterprise resource planning systems thus varies considerably from one software provider to another.
Basic features: these are the features offered by ERP systems
There are a large number of ERP systems on the market. So how can companies choose one of the systems? Clearly, a close check of the range of functions is the decisive point. Of course, the first thing to look at are the basic functions. This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff. For example, if there are deficits in one of the systems for the task in hand, it is better to go for a system that meets your own needs.
In our market overview, we have of course highlighted both the basic functions and a large number of additional functions, be it order management, shipping functions or warehouse management. In addition to the range of functions, the interfaces to other software solutions also form an important part of our market overview. After all, a system as central as an ERP should be able to be linked as seamlessly as possible with other tools and systems.
Conclusion
The ERP systems compared offer a tailored solution for every company need. But how do companies make the right choice? ERP systems are available with a wide variety of functions and in a wide range of price classes. The decision for a suitable system ultimately depends on various factors and individual preferences. The important thing is that the system must fit seamlessly into the existing system landscape. Only then can it contribute to optimizing the processes in the company.
